Graffiti artist, painter and creator of the Freaks
The practice.
Rebelzer is a Hamburg-based graffiti artist and painter whose expressive characters, the Freaks, have become part of the visual landscape of St. Pauli and beyond. Active since the 1990s, he developed his practice through graffiti lettering, typography and sign painting. His unmistakable figures combine bold outlines, lively faces and a sense of humor, appearing on public walls, canvases and prints. His major public projects include the expansive artwork at Hamburg’s Legienstraße underground station. A longtime friend and collaborator of Flying Förtress, he shares an interest in characters that move between street art and studio practice.

EDITION 001 STORY.
Bremen 2026
Rebelzer’s participation in Bremen began with a remarkable coincidence. While traveling toward Morocco in his orange expedition van, with a motorcycle at the back, he received an unexpected call from Flying Förtress, who had just heard about the project. Rebelzer happened to be passing near Bremen. Intrigued by the idea, he stopped at the studio, created all ten of his 60 × 60 cm paintings and then continued his journey. The visit also brought extended conversations, laughter and a new personal connection. What might have been a brief detour became one of the first edition’s memorable encounters.
